Haarlemse Nieuwe 2015-2016
The Haarlemse Nieuwe project was initiated after Rik read several news articles, claiming that all refugees who flew into Europe had either only economic or bad intentions.
At the heart of the project Rik wanted to make a nuance in the way refugees are being portrayed in the Dutch National media, often in a dramatic and unsettled context.
By showing these peoples faces and former information, Rik tries to fill the gap between both worlds, with the aim of creating a better understanding among the citizens of Haarlem.
The portraits were displayed on walls in the city center of Haarlem during ‘Kunstlijn Haarlem’, a yearly art festival.
